Former PM Victor Ponta is being heard on Monday at the National Anti-corruption Directorate in Ploiesti in the file where MP Sebastian Ghita is charged with bribery, blackmail and other corruption deeds.

After leaving the DNA headquarters, Victor Ponta refuse to make any statements, only saying he is heard as a witness in this file and that he said all that he knew.

The name of the former premier was mentioned by defendant Liviu Tudose, prosecutor in Ploiesti, who told investigators that Victor Ponta would have offered him positions at the National Office for Prevention and Control of Money Laundering or the Fight Against Fraud Department.

Prosecutor Liviu Tudose said that he knew Ghita as being ‘a bluffer’ and that he had to throw him out of his house many times. Tudose told prosecutors that he met Victor Ponta at the Government on January 20, 2014 and they had a brief discussion.

I was surprised by his wish to see me and I did not know why at that moment (…) During the 1-2 minute discussion the prime minister asked me how it would me if he proposed me a position at the National Office for Prevention and Control of Money Laundering or the Fight Against Fraud Department. I told him I would basically agree, but provided that I knew minimum further details (…) I saw the meeting as a trifling one, the more that I checked on the Internet the situation of the available positions at the National Office for Prevention and Control of Money Laundering and I saw all positions were filled up,” reads Tudose’s statement.

He also added that he has had a discussion with the leadership of the Prahova National Intelligence Service about his meeting with Victor Ponta and on March 4, on the occasion of the balance sheet of the Prosecutor’s Office Tudose met Coldea, the deputy director of SRI, who had told him “not to give in any offers under no circumstances.”
