Ex-president Basescu heard at the Prosecutor’s Office
Former President Traian Basescu was heard at the Military Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday in a file related to a complaint filed by senator Ioan Ghise in 2012.
The senator filed the complaint against Traian Basescu and against the employees of the Presidential Administration who threw him out from a reception held at Cotroceni Palace on Romania’s National Day.
The complaint had been filed at the Prosecutor’s Office but it declined its competence to the Military court, as the employees of the Protection and Guard Service (SPP) are military.
Ghise claimed that he had been piggybacked and thrown out in the street after the SPP staff. During the reception he was wearing under his jacket a t-shirt with a protest message promoting the slogan that President Basescu should be sacked at the 2012 referendum.
Basescu’s spokesperson at that time retorted that “there has been an incident with one of the official guests who tried to disturb the event through his outfit and slogans and that the guard staff considered he had to be sent away.”
Previously in the day, ex-president Basescu wrote on his Facebook page that he has nothing to negotiate regarding “the library of criminal files based on complaints filed by informer Voiculescu’s people.” “You’d better reconfirm that you dropped the criminal charges against me, or send the files to court,” Basescu argued.
He said that he had been Transport minister in five governments but there was no file for the auctions held during his terms and the same goes for the Bucharest City Hall and his four-year term.
“Despite these, there is an entire library of criminal cases against me at the Prosecutor’s Office, generated by complaints filed by informer Voiculescu’s men. After prosecutors ruled out these criminal cases, they have been re-opened in 2015 at the request of former Prosecutor General Tiberiu Nitu.
I don’t deny the Prosecutor’s Office right to re-open files, but I am challenging the fact that they are politically used (…) By maintaining these files without a decision, prosecutors are only waiting the right moment to use them according to their chiefs’ orders for their political interests.
You’d better remember, I have nothing to negotiate!” the former president said.
