Film director Mihnea Columbeanu sentenced to 26 years and four months in prison for child pornography
Film director and actor Mihnea Columbeanu was sentenced on Friday, by the Bucharest Court of Appeal, to 26 years and four months in prison. He was found guilty of the crime of child pornography. The verdict of the judges of the Court of Appeal is final.
In Friday’s verdict, the Court maintained the sentence given in the first instance, in February, by the Bucharest Court.
Mihnea Columbeanu was sentenced previously to several penalties for child pornography, child trafficking and sexual assault, with sentences not exceeding six years. The court decided to add an increase of one third of all the other sentences, 20 years and four months in prison respectively, so Mihnea Columbeanu will spend 26 years and four months in prison, if the decision becomes final.
In the same file was also sentenced Gabriela Ionescu, the mother of one of his victims, to nine years and four months in prison. The woman was found guilty of complicity in child pornography in repeated form.
The judges decided that film director Mihnea Columbeanu is to pay damages of EUR 5,000 for each of his victims.
