Gigi Becali could be set free on parole

Gigi Becali could be released, as the magistrates of Medgidia Court admitted his request for conditional release from prison on Friday, sentence which runs for three years and six months imprisonment in the “Suitcase” file and in the case of land swap with the Ministry of Defence.

Friday’s decision of the Medgidia Court is not final, as prosecutors have the right to appeal to a higher court within three days from notification.

If the Medgidia Court decision on Friday will be challenged, Gigi Becali is to remain in Poarta Alba penitentiary, where he is serving his sentence in open regime, until the case of solved and a final ruling is decided by the court.

Gigi Becali has to serve a sentence of three years and six months, after being sentenced on May 20, 2013 to three years in prison in the case of land swap with the Ministry of Defence and subsequently received an extra six months after the other two sentences in the “Suitcase” file and in the file for seizure of those who stole his car.

According to Antena 3, the prosecutors have already challenged the court’s ruling.
