FC Steaua owner Gigi Becali has been released on parole from the Poarta Alba jail after serving a third of the sentence of three years and six months in prison, the decision being taken on Friday by the Constanta Court, which dismissed the appeal filed by the DNA prosecutors.

The decision made by the Constanta Court magistrates is final.

In early March, the Medgidia Court approved the application for release on parole filed by Gigi Becali, but the prosecutors appealed the decision.

Thus the prosecutors’ appeal reached the Constanta Court, which on Tuesday discussed this case and were under pronouncement until Friday.

Becali has been behind bars since May 20, 2013. He was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment with execution in the file of land swap with the Ministry of Defence and another three in the ‘suitcase file’. Punishments were merged and the Steaua financier received also an increase of punishment of 6 months.
