Horatiu Potra, released, placed under judicial control
Authorities carried out new searches at his home in Media?, where they found two million euros in cash.
Horațiu Potra has been placed under judicial control, the judges in Ploiești decided, rejecting the prosecutors’ request for preventive arrest. The magistrates’ decision comes after authorities carried out new searches at his home in Mediaș, where they found two million euros in cash.
Horațiu Potra was placed under judicial control for 60 days by magistrates. He was thus released, after the 24-hour detention order expired. The decision regarding the judicial control measure against Potra was taken by the Ploiești Court of Appeal, which rejected the proposal of the prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Ploiești Court of Appeal, aiming at his preventive arrest. The decision is not final.
Taken to new hearings today, Horațiu Potra did not give statements during the hours he spent in front of the investigators, claiming the right to remain silent.
A similar decision was made in the case of young Andrei Florin Lup, 22 years old, who was driving the Mercedes in which Potra was heading to Bucharest on the night of Saturday to Sunday and in which weapons were found.
Prosecutors have accounted for the amounts of money found, and Potra will have to justify the origin of this amount of money, otherwise it will be seized, and in the event of a conviction it will be confiscated. Thus, investigators found two million euros during searches carried out on Monday in Bucharest, and in Sibiu and Ilfov counties, according to judicial sources. The amount of two million euros is in several currencies.
The case in which the two are being investigated concerns crimes of non-compliance with the weapons and ammunition regime, any operations with pyrotechnic articles and public incitement. The charges brought against Potra and his employees are particularly serious. Investigators say that they were heading to Bucharest and intended to use the firearms, knives and large sums of money found in his car to incite the commission of crimes at protests that they said were to be organized in the capital, in the context of the presidential elections later annulled by the Constitutional Court.
Images have been made public that prove that former presidential candidate Călin Georgescu is not telling the truth when he claims that he does not know the mercenary Horațiu Potra. Antena 3 CNN presented images of Călin Georgescu, sitting at a table with neo-legionnaire Eugen Sechila and Horațiu Potra.
