Anti-corruption body on Thursday conducted several searches at the Prosecutor’s Office upon Iasi Tribunal, and at the place of prosecutor Emilian Eva in a corruption case related to national cultural patrimony protection. DNA targets corruption deeds committed during 2011-2015.

Emilian Eva used to be anti-corruption prosecutor himself, coming into the public light after instituting legal proceedings against media mogul Dan Voiculescu on December 2008, who has been subsequently sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Yet, the Supreme Council of Magistracy sanctioned Eva in October 2014, cutting his magistrate pay by 20 pc for five months, as penalty for the way he used to investigate a corruption file of some local underworld leaders.

Now, Eva is investigated himself for allegedly trading over 200 paintings rated for EUR 300,000 during November 2014-June 2015, although his magistrate position is incompatible with this kind of commercial action.

DNA prosecutors told Agerpres that Emilian Eva would have introduced on the art market mobile cultural goods, presented as authentic, although part of them were false. The same sources said that the main provider would have been a doctor from “Sf. Spiridon” County Hospital in Iasi, known as a virtuoso, but also an art agent. Investigators claim that Eva would have been supported by his nephew who was a nurse at another Iasi hospital, “St.Paracheva” Infectious Disease Unit.
