The International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) expresses concern, in a letter addressed to Premier Viorica Dancila, in regard to the revocation procedure of Prosecutor General Augustin Lazar (photo), saying he is appreciated by prosecutors worldwide.

The Association requests that the revocation procedure is stopped and criticizes the amendments to the laws of justice. The letter is addressed in the context in which President Klaus Iohannis has announced he would not revoke Augustin Lazar from office and praised the Prosecutor General’s activity, ziare.com reports.

The AIP message is signed by Secretary General Han Moraal and was dated January 10, 2019, Government sources say.

The letter mentions the recent recommendations from the Venice Commission on the way revocations are made for Chief Prosecutors and the magistrates’ freedom of expression.

Justice Minister has announced he would challenge to the Constitutional Court the possible denial of revocation, as he did in the case of former National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) chief prosecutor, Laura Codruta Kovesi.
