Jordanian citizen, declared undesirable. SRI: He could have got involved in operations against Romania
A Jordanian citizen has been declared undesirable by the Romanian state, for reasons of national security. The Bucharest Court of Appeal has decided to ban his access to Romania for 15 years, digi24.ro reports.
The Jordanian citizen, aged 52, was established for a long time in Romania. The reason for which his residency right in Romania has been lifted is related to national security, being suspected of Jihadist propaganda. The request has been forwarded to the court by the prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Office upon the Bucharest Court of Appeal, following information provided by Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) Officers and by the officers of the General Inspectorate for Immigration.
According to SRI spokesman Ovidiu Marincea, the Jordanian citizen is a businessman and has a family in Constanta (Eastern Romania).
SRI informs in a release that Jamal A. Abdel Jabbar Khalil Shalash, in Romania since 1991, has been monitored starting with 2014 and the service found out he was carrying out operations with risks and threats against national security, according to the legal framework in the field of anti-terrorism.
The release reads that starting with 2014 the Jordanian went through a progressive process of self-radicalization by systematically accessing the online propaganda of Jihadist terrorist entities from the Syria-Iraq area and especially Daesh (ISIS). Jamal A. Abdel Jabbar Khalil Shalash carried out Jihadist propaganda and ideological recruitment for Daesh, trying to legitimize the organisation’s operating mode, including the recent attacks in Paris. The unconditional support for the Daesh operations included his availability to get involved in operations against Romania, the SRI release reads.
The Bucharest Court of Appeal decision is not final, it can be challenged in the next ten days, however is to be implemented immediately and the Jordanian citizen is to be expelled.
The Jordanian citizen is the tenth foreigner for which the Romanian authorities have taken such a measure this year. There are nine such cases recorded this year, also for reasons of national security.
