Liviu Dragnea remains behind bars, final ruling says
Former PSD chairman Liviu Dragnea remains in prison after Bucharest Tribunal has rejected today the motion of the former SocDem leader to be released on parole.
The appeal against the ruling by the District 5 Court, which denied Dragnea’s release on parole at the end of April as groundless, has been rejected by Bucharest Tribunal on Thursday, as unfounded.
The ruling is final.
The proposal or request for release on parole in Dragnea’s case can be renewed after August 27, 2021.
In his pursuit to be released from jail, Liviu Dragnea was counting on the “clean bill” on rehabilitation granted by the Rahova Penitentiary, where he is serving the three years jail time, as well as the magistrates’ final ruling, which consented to former PSD leader’s acknowledgment of the 49 days of work during July 2, 2020-September 15, 2020 and September 16, 2020-January 28, 2021, times when his working right would have been denied.
Liviu Dragnea was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison in the fictitious hiring file from the the Teleorman Child Protection Authority.
