Former PSD chairman Liviu Dragnea remains in prison after the Supreme Court had overruled his appeal in the file where he was sentenced to 3 years and a half in prison for corruption.
Dragnea came from Rahova Penitentiary before the court and claimed he is not guilty of the charges.
However, the High Court of Cassation and Justice has denied his motion, meaning that Dragnea remains behind bars. The ruling is final.

At the beginning of the court hearing today, Dragnea’s lawyer, Flavia Teodosiu, has asked for a closed session, with judges agreeing that, so the journalists were told to leave the court room.

Upon leaving the court, Liviu Dragnea told the journalists: “I cannot talk, I am sorry”.

The former PSD leader had two previous attempts of getting out of prison, by using two extraordinary appeals against the final ruling: an action for annulment, filed on October 18, where he asked for a retrial and an appeal filed on October 22, eyeing for an annulment of the sentence.

The Supreme Court has pronounced the final ruling in the fictitious hiring file on May 28, sentencing ruling PSD leader Liviu Dragnea to three years and a half in prison. Following repeated delays, the judges of the High Court of Cassation and Justice have given the verdict one day after the EP elections.
