Marian Vanghelie remains in preventive arrest
The High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ – Supreme Court) decided that the suspended District 5 mayor, Marian Vanghelie is to remain in preventive arrest in the file he is investigated by the DNA prosecutors for corruption.
The magistrates rejected Vanghelie’s request to replace preventive arrest with house arrest or judicial control.
Marian Vanghelie was arrested on March 14, in a file in which ge is accused by DNA of abuse of office, bribery and money laundering.
On April 6, the mayor of District 5, Marian Vanghelie was been suspended from office.
Vanghelie is in custody since March 14, in the file in which he is accused of bribe taking – EUR 90 million – for supporting firms owned by businessman Marin Dumitru being awarded public works contracts by the District 5 Municipality. In addition, the mayor is accused of money laundering and abuse of office.
