The Ombudsman has taken notice and has initiated an investigation into the death of FC Dinamo footballer Patrick Ekeng, regarding both the circumstances in which the event occurred and the situation of the national ambulance system, reads a press release from the institution.

The press release noted that the investigation “aims at both the circumstances of the tragic event and the situation of the ambulances system nationwide, its conclusions will be included in the future Ombudsman’s Special Report on public health.”

Victor Ciorbea said that “there are many questions about the way in which the events took place, the way of the first aid was provided after this tragic accident and it is natural to take notice and see the exact situation. We said that an investigation on the situation of the national health system is needed.”

The Ombudsman argues that, amongst others, he will require in the immediate future documents from FC Dinamo and from the Puls private ambulance service.

The investigation comes after the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Bucharest Court has already opened a criminal file in rem for manslaughter.
