President Iohannis: Revolution, miners’ riot-major arrears of the judiciary. What the Prosecutor General say?
President Klaus Iohannis on Wednesday welcomed the representatives of the „21 Decembrie 1989” Association at the Cotroceni Palace. The head of state said the Revolution and Miner riots’ files are major arrears of the judiciary system.
President Iohannis „ reiterated the appreciation for the association’s actions during time so that state authorities should re-establish the truth and to bring the guilty persons to account,” reads the association’s press release.
„Romania’s President pointed out that Judiciary is responsible to establish the truth in the Revolution and miners riot’s files, also saying that these two cases represent some major arrears of the system, while underlining the need for a quick and clear decision, establishing the truth related to the events in December 1989 and during the miners’ riot,” the Presidential Administration also informed.
The Presidency adds that Klaus Iohannis stressed that „the truth must come to light and that he will exert all constitutional attributions so that a legal, well-grounded ruling in these cases should be pronounced.”
„At the same time, President Klaus Iohannis expressed confidence that the Prosecutor General will follow accordingly the scheduled he embarked on at the beginning of his term: conducting investigations in the Revolution and miners riots’ files and concluding them in the view of identifying the responsible persons, including the political decision makers,” reads the Presidency’s release.
In a different event on Wednesday, Romania’s Prosecutor General Augustin Lazar said in Alba Iulia that he is optimistic that the Miners riot file would be concluded by the end of 2016, while the Revolution case would get there in the first half of 2017.
