Prosecutors Target Influencers Backing Călin Georgescu

Seventeen house searches are taking place on Thursday in the municipality of Bucharest and in the counties of Brasov, Botoşani, Calarasi, Dolj, Galati, Giurgiu, Maramures, Mureş and Timis, at the homes of individuals, in a criminal case, in which the criminal investigation is being carried out regarding the commission of the crime of voter corruption. Sources close to the investigation, quoted by Digi24, state that influencers who campaigned for Călin Georgescu are also targeted.

According to Digi 24 sources, among those targeted by Thursday morning’s searches are the influencer Makaveli and Bogdan Peșchir, who is suspected of having paid influencers to distribute messages in support of Călin Georgescu in the 2024 campaign.

“At this time, police officers from the I.G.P.R. – Economic Crime Investigation Directorate and the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice – Criminal Investigation Section are coordinating the conduct of 17 home searches, in the municipality of Bucharest and the counties of Braşov, Botoşani, Călăraşi, Dolj, Galaţi, Giurgiu, Maramureş, Mureş and Timiş, at the homes of individuals, in a criminal case, in which criminal investigation is being carried out regarding the commission of the crime of voter corruption,” informs the Romanian Police.

The investigations aim to document the criminal activity of the targeted individuals. According to the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court, the activities aim to establish links between the searched individuals and other individuals who could be involved in fraud in the electoral process.

Police officers from the Romanian General Police Inspectorate are participating in the action. – Economic Crime Investigation Directorate, with the support of the National Institute of Forensics, the “Vlad Țepeș” Special Intervention Brigade of the Gendarmerie and the police inspectorates of Brașov, Botoșani, Dolj, Galați, Maramureș, Mureș and Timiș.

Alin Borcan, one of the TikTok influencers targeted by searches Thursday morning in the voter corruption case in favor of Călin Georgescu, stepped out in front of his home in Timiș with a toy gun. “I came to kill these people who left earlier,” he said of the law enforcement officers. He also told the Antena 3 CNN journalist not to come “here” anymore.

After prosecutors searched his home Thursday morning, influencer Alin Borcan stepped out of his home with a toy gun and walked in front of the journalists present, declaring that the prosecutors were “hooded thieves,” according to Antena 3 CNN.
