Realitatea TV owner and former Romanian Post manager to spend 4 years in jail
Maricel P?curaru, one of Realitatea TV owners, and Mihail Toader, former general manager of Romanian Post Company, were irrevocably sentenced to spend four years in prison on Monday. They were condemned for their involvement in the file regarding the employees’ insurance policies, in which the prejudice raises to over EUR four million.
In May 2012, the Bucharest Court sentenced Maricel P?curaru to eight years in prison with execution. Former Romanian Post Company manager, Mihail Toader, received a sentence of six years in prison with execution in the case of employees’ insurance policies.
They were indicted on October 13, 2009, by the National Anticorruption Direction prosecutors, related to the signing of six insurance policies through which the Romanian Post Company was prejudiced with over EUR four million.
On Monday, the previous sentences have been modified, thus they will receive only four years of imprisonment instead of eight and six, respectively. P?curaru was charged with money laundering and complicity in abuse of office, while Toader was charged with abuse of office against public interests.
P?curaru’s partner Cozmin Gu?? is also charged with money laundering in this case, various media report.
