Resita Mayor Mihai Stepanescu detained, suspected of corruption
Resita Mayor Mihai Stepanescu, taken into custody by the prosecutors after the searches at the institution and heard by the National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) Timisoara, was detained on Thursday evening for corruption, and is expected to be presented to court on Friday with the proposal of remand.
Judicial sources said Mihai Stepanescu is suspected for having demanded and received money as bribes from the company Elis Pavaje Alba “in connection with the awarding and conducting a public works contract concluded by the City Resita with that company, represented by Stelian Taun, worth about RON 600,000.”
“Stepanescu claimed and received from the company about 10% of the payments made by the Resita City Hall to this company,” said the sources.
According to a DNA Timisoara communiqué, investigations are being made in a criminal file on suspicions of committing deeds committed during 2014-2015.
