Searches at the Cluj City Hall, investigators probe into the deputy mayor’s electoral donations
Anti-corruption prosecutors are conducting searches at the City Hall in Cluj-Napoca on Monday, in a file targeting corruption offenses.
The prosecutors suspect corruption crimes allegedly committed during 2014-2016.
“Searches are conducted at nine locations within the public institution and other searches at the places of several physical persons and at the HQs of one legal person,” reads the National Anti-corruption Directorate’s statement.
According to the Cluj City Hall’s spokesperson, Oana Buzatu, anti-corruption prosecutors came to the city hall on Monday morning and asked for several documents.
Judicial sources told Agerpres that investigators are mainly interested in some facts related to deputy mayor Horvath Anna’s activity.
Deputy mayor Anna Horvath says that DNA prosecutors are probing into the financing of her electoral campaign in June 2016, when she ran for the mayor seat in Cluj-Napoca.
“It’s an ongoing criminal investigation probing into potential irregularities on financing the electoral campaign in June 2016 when I ran for the Cluj City Hall. They investigate potential relations between the electoral financing and my administrative activity in the city hall. I have no quality in the file. I was invited for hearings at DNA and I will go. There have been house searches and at several offices at the city hall, including my office. Personal note books and a computer has been seized from my residence,” deputy mayor Horvath Anna told journalists on Monday.
She said she had observed the law during her activity.
“All financing reports have been sent to Bucharest, they were in compliance with the law, the donations from physical persons are available at the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP). There were donations for candidates, I couldn’t borrow money from the bank,” the deputy mayor added.
Judicial sources revealed that the anti-corruption searches are also targeting the headquarters of the UDMR in Cluj.
