Searches in a cigarette smuggling case, servicemen allegedly involved

Policemen have conducted 41 searches in Bucharest and other 6 counties on Monday in a cigarette smuggling case. Several people, including two servicemen are suspected of manufacturing, depositing and selling tobacco. The prejudice is estimated to EUR 1 million, repressing excise duties owed to the state.

Searches took place in Bucharest, as well as in Ilfov, Ialomița, Călărași, Bacău, Prahova, Satu Mare counties. 22 people have been taken to hearings. Two military, one from Ialomita, the other one from Bacau are involved in this criminal organized group. The smugglers are suspected of ordering bulk tobacco in Bulgaria, that they would chop and sell online.

The activity would have been coordinated by a family in Calarasi.
