Former President Traian Basescu was summoned Thursday morning at the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ – Supreme Court), cited in a file where a person requests the reopening of the criminal investigation against him in connection with a statement made in 2007 in the context of approaches for suspending him from office.
It is about Ioan Serb, who filed a complaint against Traian Basescu to the Prosecutor’s Office.
“(Someone) asked for my prosecution for false statements, because in 2007 I said I’d quit in five minutes and I have not resigned. Now the Prosecutor General requested the reopening of this file,” said Basescu when arriving at the ICCJ.
The former head of state said that the Prosecutor’s Office is drawing ‘a high pace’ programme for him, as he went to court also on Wednesday, but that he will follow every call of the prosecutors.
In connection with its 2007 statement, Basescu said it was an oral declaration he reconsidered immediately after the Parliament vote.
On April 17, 2007, Basescu said that if Parliament will vote on his suspension from office, he will resign in five minutes. Later, Basescu gave up the decision to step down.
