Former FBI Director Louis Freeh, recently hired by Romanian businessman Puiu Popoviciu as lawyer, had also been hired by Israeli billionaire Beny Steinmetz, who has been detained recently for his real-estate business in Romania.
According to ‘The Intercept’ in January 2015, Freeh’s company supported the defence of billionaire Beny Steinmetz. “Steinmetz hired up a virtual dream team to defend him in the various investigations, including Freeh’s firm and the law firm of former senator Joe Lieberman,” the publication wrote, in a file in which he was charged with bribery to a mining company in Guinea, hotnews.ro informs.
Puiu Popoviciu has hired former FBI Director Louis Freeh as lawyer, who states in a communiqué that he is ‘deeply disappointed’ by the verdict of the High Court of Cassation and Justice in Romania to sentence the businessman to 7 years in jail, as ‘the sentence and conviction are not supported by either the facts or the law.’
On the other hand, the arrest of Israeli billionaire Beny Steinmetz Monday on suspicions that include fraud and money laundering is connected to a case against him in Romania, police and other sources say, according to haaretz.com.
