Man dies from West Nile in Iasi

An old man died in Iasi after being infected with the West Nile virus following a mosquito bite. Another four people in the county are officially reported as having the same virus. Nine such deaths have been reported countrywide so far.

A pensioner from Iasi got the West Nile virus and died after being under treatment at “St. Paracheva” Hospital for infectious diseases in Iasi. The man’s body crashed due to complications.

The other four patients having the same virus, although over 60 years old, were luckier, as they reacted differently to the infection.

According to the Institute for Public Health, 92 such infection cases have been reported countrywide. Nine of the patients died. They came from different counties: Bucharest, Braila, Iasi or Teleorman.

Doctors say that most case of West Nile virus have no symptoms, while another 15-20% cases are reported with symptoms similar to a flu, having a sudden debut with fever, migraines, muscle fever or vomits.
