A 13-year-old boy who was attending the National Mathematics Olympiad in Hunedoara has died after falling from the fourth floor of the hotel’s staircase where he was accommodated. The doctors from Hunedoara decided to transfer him in Timisoara as the boy was in a coma.
“Unfortunately, the doctors in Timisoara where the boy had been taken informed that the 13-year-old minor from Galati had died due to the strong brain damage”, the Hunedoara Police reported.
Apart from the brain damage he had also a pulmonary contusion, pelvic fracture. He eventually died of a heart failure.
The 13yo boy, studying at a high school in Galat, was participating in the national math Olympiad in Hunedoara. On Wednesday night he fell from the fourth floor of the hotel downtown where he was accommodated together with his father.
Apparently he was alone in the room when the tragedy occurred. Police is conducting searches in this case to establish the exact circumstances.
The pupils who attended the National Math Olympiad for the 5th to 6th grades were awarded in Deva on Thursday. The awarding ceremony was preceded by a moment of silence in the memory of the boy who died. He was supposed to be awarded the bronze medal by the Romanian Society of Mathematical Sciences.
