The mosque to be built in Bucharest risks being used by Islamic fundamentalist groups as center for supporting terrorism, anti-Semite and anti-Christian attitudes, the Center for Monitoring and Combating Anti-Semitism in Romania (MCA) warned on Wednesday.

“The Center is launching a warning over potential attempts to turn this ambitious project into a center used by Islamic radical elements as regional base for anti-Semite, anti-democratic, anti-Christian and terror actions,” said Maximillian Marco Katz, the founding manager of MCA Romania.

“It has been proved that Islamic mosques and universities are frequently involved in actions promoting and supporting terrorism, anti-Semitism and violence against Jews and Christians, “ Marco Katz also pointed out.

MCA urges Romanian Government to not initiate the project regarding the mosque in Bucharest, not before ‘investigating the financing sources’ and the entities behind this initiative.

The last official who slammed the project of erecting the biggest European mosque in Bucharest was former president Traian Basescu, who said that bringing Muslim students in Romania poses ‘the greatest risk’.

Official statistics reveal that almost 10,000 Muslims live in Bucharest, with half of them being foreign citizens came in our country for business, to study, by marriages or with other purposes. However, the larges Muslim community in Romania is in Dobrogea, counting over 70,000 persons.

Iohannis: Muslim community is sharing the same European and North Atlantic aspirations

While attending the Iftar meal evening on Wednesday marking the Muslims’ Ramadan fast, President Klaus Iohannis said the members of the Muslim community in Romania are sharing the same joint aspirations, among whom there are “the European project and the North-Atlantic commitment”.

“The Muslim community is enjoying through concrete deeds, not only by words, all rights stipulated in the Constitution, while benefiting of the state’s support. Your relation with the other Romanian citizens, regardless of their native tongue and the way they are praying, is one of fellowship and fair play, and I am glad to quote here one of the Mufti’s statements,” Iohannis told the event held at Marriott Hotel and attended by Muurat Iusuf, the leader of the Muslim Cult in Romania, by other leaders of the Muslim organizations, as well as by ambassadors and diplomats.
