Four Romanian students from the Polytechnic University of Timisoara won one of the biggest competitions organized by Microsoft IT giant, with their innovative project, Xvision, a soft for automatic diagnosis based on a X-ray.

The students received USD 3,000, but also the Microsoft’s support to put their project into effect.

The soft is installed on a PC and can read any X-ray and get a diagnostic, with an almost 100% accuracy.

One of the students who worked on the project, Stefan Iarca, explains: “The program receives some classic X-rays, analyses them and says if there is any anomaly. If it is any, the soft helps radiologists focus on the important areas of the the X-ray.

Hundreds of projects from 40 countries have raced in the Microsoft contest.

The students from Timisoara have worked on their project for six months and they ranked first. They say the financial prize will be re-invested in developing and improving other projects and in attending IT conferences.

The Romanian students’ team is called Mindfully Technologies, and soon it will also be the name of the company that the four boys plan to set up.
