The Ministry of Defence officials have announced on Monday that Gabriel Oprea was advanced to Brigadier General by meeting only two of the three conditions set out in the military.

Thus, Gabriel Oprea met only the position and education background criteria. In relation to the third condition, that the officer is to have ‘very good’ mark in the last year of activity, the MoD shows that on analysis of the selection committee, Oprea did not have made such an assessment, specifying, however, that, when granting the degree, the regulations in 2001were met.

The MoD committee which has checked the way Gabriel Oprea was advanced in rank to Brigadier General was set up in mid October.

Gabriel Oprea is a four star General in reserve since October 2009, when he was advanced in rank by decree by former President Traian Basescu. Previously, on December 1, 2008, Oprea had been advanced to the rank of Lieutenant-General in reserve.
