The drivers who want to park their cars downtown Bucharest will have to pay more. The City Hall intends to increase the tariffs and to divide the city into three areas (zones) with differentiated tariffs.
Zone 0 includes parking spaces between University Square and Unirii Square. Several underground car parking lots are also within this perimeter, stiri.tvr.ro informs.
In Zone 0, for an hour, drivers will have to pay RON 10. After the first two hours, the tariff doubles.
For drivers living downtown, there will also be a preferential tariff of RON 120 per month.
Increased prices will also be in Zone 1, for which the City Hall will establish tariffs according to the Integrated Air Quality Plan. The central point will be Victoriei Square. The tariff for one hour of parking will be RON 5. After the first two hours, drivers will pay double, the monthly tariff being of RON 100.
The cheapest parking places will be in Zone 2, which extends to the outskirts of the capital. For an hour, drivers will pay RON 2.5.
At night, fares will be lower than those during the day.
The Bucharest City Hall says it had to take these measures due to the European standards that require pollution cuts.
Most drivers seem to be disturbed by the small number of parking places and not by the price increase.
The new prices will come into force if the draft will be voted on at the Bucharest General Council sitting this week.
