Most Romanians in urban areas have turned to private medical services last year, survey says

Three out of five Romanians (61%) have used private medical services last year to the detriment of public services, for laboratory medical analyzes, while public services have been used mostly for hospitalizations (39%) and surgical interventions (25%), a survey released on Monday reads.

According to the cited source, seven out of ten Romanians in urban areas use technology for health-related activities and most of them (58%) claim that they have a greater control over health status, having other benefits such as reduced stress (44%) and easier communication with doctors (42%).

Regarding the current health status of Romanians living in urban areas, 35% said they suffer from chronic diseases (50% of those over 45 years old and 24% of those under 45). Most are particularly concerned with prevention (58%), but also with updated information on health issues (34%). Also, Romanians have preferred over the last year the private health services more than public ones for lab medical tests (61% vs. 40%) and imaging tests (37% vs. 27%), while state services were used mostly for hospitalizations (39% vs. 9%) and for surgical interventions (25% vs. 11%).

According to the survey, Romanians are open to virtual consultations, in particular to ask additional questions to the doctors/to find out more details (89%), but also for interpreting the medical investigations (87%), monitoring the progress of an illness (74%), for prescribing treatment (72%) or diagnosis (44%).

The survey was conducted by iSense Solutions exclusively for the Lowe Group on a sample of 1,360 urban respondents over 18 using the Internet. The data was collected online through the ResearchRomania.ro panel during April-May 2017 and is representative for the urban environment. The study results have an error rate of +/-2.66% at a confidence level of 95%.
