The Romanian Mountain Rescue service has warned over the concerning death toll following incidents on the mountain. 15 people have died during mountain hiking in June. Hundreds of rescue missions have taken place in the same month, with almost 500 people suffering accidents.

In a Facebook post announcing the launch of the campaign “The summer of 2019-the summer of responsibility on the mountain”, mountain rescuers reported “a sinister” figure of the rescue missions in 24 counties in Romania last month.

The post says that 250-300 mountain rescuers were on duty in the tourist mountain areas on a daily basis and during this time, they were called to intervene in 996 rescue missions and to grant medical aid, with 1,102 people being rescued.

Out of 1,102, 422 injured people were taken to hospitals by SMURD and Ambulance vehicles, while 16 were transported by medevac helicopters.

At the same time, 15 people were reported dead on the mountain.

“The summer of 2019-the summer of responsibility on the mountain” campaign sends a warning message to mountain fans in order to reduce the number of mountain accidents.
