Two Romanians, a mountain rescuer from Zarnesti and a climber from Bucharest have set a national premier on ski-climbing, succeeding in climbing the 7,546-meter Muztagh Ata peak, the second in height from Tibet.

The mountain rescuer Ciprian Lolu and alpinist Horea Popescu have set the national record in July by climbing the peak on ski.

The expedition began in early July and Ciprian Lolu reached alone the peak on July 16, after two weeks of acclimation. The next day, he returned on the peak next to Horea Popescu.

According to Lolu, they chose to climb Muztagh Ata as no one from Romania has ever climbed it. He is actually running a project named “82+” through which he aims to reach the most difficult high altitude peaks in the world and also to climb the most known and technical peaks in the Alps. Lolu is set to go on with this project, especially that he survived a strong avalanche in 2004 in Bucegi Mountains.
