A Romanian pupil got the gold medal at the International Biology Olympiad, which represents a first for Romania, Education Ministry informs.
Mircea Dan Mirea is a 12th – grade pupil at “Fratii Buzesti” National College in Craiova and it is the second year he wins a prize at the International Biology Olympiad, after a silver medal last year.
Alexandru Ionu? Du?? (12th grade at “Ion Minulescu” National College in Slatina), Bogdan Ionu? Sisc? Jippa (11th grade, “Mihai Viteazul” National College in Bucharest) got bronze medals. George C?talin Maier (10th grade, “Avram Iancu” High School in Cluj-Napoca) was also part of the Romanian team.
The International Biology Olympiad was held in Aarhus, Denmark during July 12-19. 239 pupils from 62 countries attended the competition.
Romania has been attending the International Biology Olympiad since 1997, when it also got a silver medal and three bronze medals. Romanian pupils have never got the gold medal so far.
