Nearly Half of Romania to Be Under Orange Alert for Rain and Storms
Meteorologists have issued a code yellow and a code orange of heavy rain and storms for the next few days, as a strong cyclone is expected to hit Romania at the weekend. The capital will also be affected.
From Saturday evening to Sunday morning, only the west of the country will be under a yellow code of atmospheric instability and quantitatively significant showers.
In Banat, Crișana, Maramureș, western Transylvania and locally in the mountains there will be periods of showers, electrical discharges and wind intensifications, locally with gusts generally of 50…60 km/h. There will be isolated gales and hail. In short periods of time or through accumulation, the water quantities will be 20…25 l/m2 and isolated over 30…40 l/m2, according to ANM.
Bad weather alert as of Sunday
The unstable weather alerts will seize the entire country on Sunday. Until September 30, at 10 p.m., atmospheric instability, quantitatively significant rains, wind gusts will be reported. Showers will spread across the country from west to east. In short periods of time and through accumulation, the amounts of water will be 25…40 l/m2 and locally over 50 l/m2.
The wind will intensify with gust speeds of 45…65 km/h. In Moldova and eastern Muntenia there will be temporary gusts of over 70 km/h, ANM warns. The weather will also cool sharply across the country.
In the mountains, at altitudes generally above 1700 m and mainly in the Eastern Carpathians, there will also be precipitation in the form of sleet and snow.
Also until Monday, several counties will be affected by an orange code of torrential and heavy rains. In the north and east of Oltenia, in most of Muntenia as well as in the Southern and Eastern Carpathians, there will be periods of torrential and heavy rain.
Weather forecast in Bucharest
Meteorologists issued a special forecast for the Capital. Until tomorrow evening the weather will be warm, and during the night from Saturday to Sunday the sky will be variable and the wind will blow weak to moderate. The minimum temperature will be 14…16 degrees.
From Sunday morning the weather will cool significantly and become unsettled. The sky will be cloudy, and in the second part of the day and night there will be torrential showers and lightning.
In short periods of time and through accumulation, the amounts of water will be 40…60 l/m2 and possibly over 70 l/m2. The wind will generally blow moderately with gust speeds of 40…55 km/h.
The maximum temperature will be 24…25 degrees, and the minimum 10…11 degrees.
The weather will continue to cool significantly on Monday. The sky will be more cloudy, and during the day it will temporarily rain. The wind will be light and moderate. The maximum temperature will be around 18 degrees.
