The associations supporting the building of the A8 Highway Ungheni-Iasi-Targu Mures have announced a new protest – a motorized march on the route Iasi-Chisinau, on Saturday.
“The Romanian Government simulates that there is no section of the Iasi-Ungheni motorway essential for the Republic of Moldova’s European path, being unable to observe Law 291/2018 on the Union Highway Ungheni-Iasi-Targu Mures voted by Parliament. The section Iasi-Ungheni is essential from the economic point of view, as A8 is the connection between West and East,” say the Associations ‘Together for A8’ and ‘Moldavia wants highway’ from Chisinau, the protest organisers, hotnews.ro reports.
The protest will be called “United for the A8 Highway.”
The protest march will take place in two lines, one leaving from Iasi, the other one from Chisinau which are to meet at Sculeni Customs and then travel to Ungheni (Romania).
The participants from both countries will demand the Romanian and Moldovan Governments “economic union by modern infrastructure, which would eliminate important barriers between the two countries.” They also demand the building of a bridge at Ungheni, so that A8 would cross to the Republic of Moldova.
The associations sent a letter last week to Prime Minister Viorica Dancila and Transports Minister Razvan Cuc, pleading for the building of A8 Highway Ungheni-Iasi-Targu Mures and requesting information and documents regarding the enforcement of Law 291/2018 (law on Union Highway) voted by Parliament at the end of last year. It was the associations’ first step, before suing the Government.
