New subway section in Bucharest operational as of H2 2018

Bucharesters will be able to take the subway on a new line as of the second half of 2018, Metrorex director Marin Aldea announced on Thursday
The new section is Valea Ialomitei-Eroilor of the Drumul Taberei subway line 5.
Trains from the existing fleet will go ont his new line, but the public metro company vows to buy other 13 new ones. According to the director, the acquisition procedure will take about one year and a half.
The works on the subway line 5 are 90% concluded on the structure and about 45% of the finishing works.
“We aim to conclude the structure works by the end of this year and the finishing works in the first half of 2018,” Aldea said.
As for the works on the Eroilor-Iancului-Pantelimon line, an official with the Transport Ministry announced they will start by the end of this year.
On Thursday, the tunneling boring machine-TMB, baptized St. Filoftea, came to the surface, an event marking the completion of the excavation works on the Râul Doamnei-Eroilor subway section.
On line 2, the TMB dug almost 4.4 kilometers of tunnel linking the Line 1-3 to Line 5.
