Nicholas Medforth-Mills, the grandson of King Michael I, has posted on his social network page a message reading that Romania has lost one of the greatest leaders of the 20th century and that he would not forget what His Majesty taught him about the real values.
“Today Romania has lost its king and one of the greatest leaders of the 20th century, symbol of doing his duty to his country. My grandfather was the ruler who really loved his country and its people! Today I have lost my best friend, my grandfather, but I consider myself lucky as I had the privilege to be raised and formed by him, in the spirit of duty towards the country and with the promise that I will always make him proud of me. Grandfather, I will miss you and I will never forget what you taught me about real values, immortal ones,” the nephew wrote to King Michael.
The lawyer of former Prince Nicolae said on Tuesday that the king’s nephew will attend the funeral, although he was not informed by his family about His Majesty’s demise.
“Think about this, he found out from his lawyer that his grandfather has died, although there are quite a lot of family members. I was the one who told him. He had no information of this kind, from none of the members of the Royal Family, nor from other officials – Director of the Royal House or anyone else. He told me that, although he hasn’t been officially informed, he will attend the funeral of his grandfather. The question is where he will be in the funeral cortege: will he be standing beside the family or in the public? Given the attitude of the family during the past four-five weeks, not letting him see his ill grandfather, the criminal complaint which has not been withdrawn… All of them will soon face a judge. I am curious where he will stand during this sad event. Nevertheless, the nephew will attend the funeral,” lawyer Radu Enache said.
The Royal Family accused former Prince Nicolae in early November of trying to break into the house in Versoix, Switzerland, and that he has assaulted several people. The Royal Family has filed a criminal complaint against Nicholas Medforth-Mills.
“Mr. Medforth-Mills physically and verbally assaulted three people. One of them has body wounds. Finally, he was prevented from forcing into the house. His Majesty made it clear for several months that he refuses to see his nephew, as he had repeatedly informed Mr. Medforth-Mills,” a statement released by the Royal House read at the time.
In an interview for ProTV, the nephew of King Mihai I said: “I arrived yesterday. I came straight from the plane and I tried to see my grandfather. Unfortunately, I couldn’t. (…) I saw the King’s secretary and he said no one is allowed in, somebody else said the same thing. (…) I came as the King’s nephew and I just wanted to see him. I’d like to see him if he is in a better condition. If not, I’d like to say good bye, for the last time.” Nicolae said.
He added he wanted to wish him good health, on his name birthday.
Romania’s Royal House announced in August 2015 that Prince Nicolae, the son of Princess Elena, has been removed from the line of succession to the defunct Romania’s throne and has been also stripped of the “Romania’s Prince” and “Royal Highness” titles.
