Number of nosocomial infections reported by hospitals doubled, yet…
Over 1,000 nosocomial infections have been reported across hospitals in Romania in the past 4 months this year by 69 hospital units, which means their number has almost doubled compared to the same period last year, according to the National Authority of Helathcare Quality Management. Overall last year, 2,274 nosocomial infections were reported by 110 hospitals.
However, official data reveal that the number of hospitals reporting such infections is still low. Considering there are 375 state hospitals in our country, statistics show that less than one in 5 hospitals has reported a nosocomial infection, meaning over 300 hospitals reported no infection in 2019.
Findings point that 635 hospital-generated infections have been reported in the first 4 months of 2018, by 50 hospitals. This year 69 hospitals reported 1.092 nosocomial infections in the first 4 months.
Most of the infections reported have been for Clostridium difficile, Acinetobacter , Klebsiella and MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus).
