The flowers offered to ladies on March 8 cost more than EUR 20 million, given that at least one third of them receive a bouquet that costs an average RON 30, according to a survey conducted by a consultancy company released on Thursday.
According to the research, the most popular flowers on Women’s Day are: snowdrops, freesia, hyacinths, tulips or daffodils. However, the most appreciated flowers by Romanians are the roses.
At market level, the ‘Frames’ analysis shows that the Romanian flower market continued to grow in 2018, with preliminary figures showing an advance of 15-20% against the previous year, when the value stood at over RON 336 million.
The survey released on Thursday also shows that the wholesale flowers business exceeded the level of RON 336 million in 2017 and the profits of the companies in the field have increased significantly to RON 26.1 million in the same year, by almost RON 10 million more than in 2016.
Statistics show that most of the companies active on the wholesale flower and flower trade are located in Bucharest and Ilfov (263), followed by the counties of Cluj (52), Iasi (49), Arges (43), Brasov (42) Mures and Timis (33) and Sibiu (30). At the same time, more than 1,200 employees work in the flower business.
With regard to players in the Romanian market, the top three are around the capital: Flowers Market Holland SRL (Ilfov) – with turnover of RON 26 million in 2017 and a profit of RON 1.22 million, Flor de Los Andes SRL – with a turnover of RON 16.8 million and a profit of RON 1.21 million and Tri’as Amway SRL (Bucharest) – with a turnover of RON 13.7 million and a profit of RON 1.82 million.
Among the top 10 wholesalers of flowers and plants are: Stanjenel SRL in Braşov, Hortigala SRL (Covasna), B&P Floral Connection (Bucharest), Flex for future SRL (Sibiu), TMT Flowers SRL (Neamţ), City Garden Distribution SRL (Bucharest) and Floria International Wholesale SRL (Bucharest), all of these companies registering a total turnover of RON 64 million.
