One dead, several injured in explosion at Babeni armament factory

An explosion took place Thursday afternoon at the Armament Factory in Babeni, Valcea County, caused by a projectile, killing a 22-year old man and injuring several other workers. The SMURD doctors arriving at the site could not save the young man, informs.

The accident was reported to the 112 emergency number.

The young men’s mother, 52, has suffered a panic attack and was taken over under medical care.

The Emergency Situations general Inspectorate (IGSU) informs that the cause of explosion was a projectile.

The Babeni Mechanical Plant, Valcea County, was set up in 1981 as company included in the National Defence System, with two production capacities: military capacity for artillery products and ammunition, and a capacity for wooden packages for military industry. Currently the factory deals with the demilitarization of explosive munitions.
