One woman dead after underground tunnel explosion at the Cugir weapons plant

A woman employee has died in the fire at the Cugir Mechanical Plant, ammunition and arms producer. According to ISU Alba, an explosion occurred in an underground test tunnel and was followed by a conflagration.

The representatives of ISU Alba initially reported that a fire broke out Monday at the Cugir Mechanical Plant, a state-owned arms company.

Later, the firefighters have returned to say that an explosion has occurred in an underground test tunnel. The explosion was followed by a fire, they said.

All employees have left the building, except for a woman who was initially missing. Later, she was found carbonized.

The Cugir Mechanical Plant is a subsidiary of the Romanian Ammunition and Arms Production Company – ROMARM, which employs about 1,000 people.
