Bucharest District 3 mayor Robert Negoita is investigated for allegedly plagiarizing his PhD thesis. The Prosecutor’s Office upon the District 1 Court opened the case against him after the Police Academy had asked the mayor should be stripped of the PhD title.
The Education ministry announced on June 24 that the National Council for Attesting Titles, Diplomas and Certificates (CNATDCU) received the Police Academy’s request on withdrawing Robert Negoita’s PhD title.
The Police Academy noticed that the mayor’s PhD thesis is plagiarized.
Robert Negoita has been doctor in Judicial Sciences since 2012, when he has got his doctor’s degree at the Police Academy.
Shortly after he received the plagiarism verdict, Negoita retorted on Facebook, saying that he will conform to the Council’s decision if it withdraws his PhD title.
“The only regret is that I let myself tempted in the past by this <trend> of the academic titles. It’s an episode I assume and that taught me an important lesson: the only notable achievements are the ones built on a healthy base! I assumed this principle as mayor but, unfortunately, I haven’t consider it from the academic perspective. Consequently, I will conform to the CNATDCU decision if it decides to withdraw my PhD title,” read Negoita’s post.
