A small percentage of 8 % of the Romanian adults would intervene if they saw a child slapped in the street, reads the latest data revealed by “Save the children” organisation. The same statistics disclose that 20 % of the parents who are beating their children “are proud” about it.

Most of the aggressions come when the children are aged from 3 to 6 and from 10 to 13.

The study “The abuse and neglect of children” signed by ‘Save the children’ also shows that 38 % of the parents admit they apply physical corrections to their children. 63% of the children say they are beaten by their parents, 18 pc of the children say they are beaten with a stick or whip and 8 pc, with the wooden spoon. Only 1 pc of the parents admit they beat their children with a certain object.

According to the National Authority for the Children’s Rights Protection, at the end of last year, 10,207 abuses upon the child were reported, with 93 pc of them (9,482) happening in the family.

The Romanian law has banned child abuse or any other form of physical or verbal aggression against children since 2005. Romanian was the 13th country that forbade the child beating.
