Patriarchy calls on the state to intervene in the case of Romanian children in London entrusted to a British gay couple

The Romanian Patriarchy has noted with concern the critical situation of the family of Romanians Florin Barbu and Claudia Racolta, based in London, whose children, Diana (8 years) and Andy (5 years) have been entrusted by court decision to a British gay couple, a press release quoted by Basilica.ro reads.

“Romanian Patriarchy appeals to the Romanian state to require the British authorities to reconsider the case and to find solutions that take into account the fundamental right of the two minor children to be grown and educated by their natural family,” the document reads.

“The Church constantly supports the traditional family as the natural environment for the birth, upbringing and education in the spirit of fundamental moral values. As a result, we believe that the Romanian family must be supported and to respect the right of two minor children to be with their natural parents. In this respect, the protection solution chosen by British authorities contravenes the Convention on the Rights of the Child adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on November 20, 1989 and ratified by Romania through Law 18/1990. Thus, Article 20, paragraph 3: In choosing one of these solutions (protection – our note) is necessary to take into account properly the necessity of continuity in child education, and his ethnical, religious, cultural and linguistic background,” the Patriarchy informs.
