Former Minister Ilan Laufer, head of the PSD Department for Business Environment, is heard on Thursday by the Investigation Division of Economic Crime in Carmen Adamescu’s file, suspected of complicity in fraudulent management and tax evasion.
Sources from the investigation say that the accusation of complicity in fraudulent management was formulated because, as a manager of two companies, Laufer allegedly supported Carmen Adamescu in managing the Unirea Shopping Center assets, generating damages to the company amounting to over EUR 5,800,000.
Those who wanted to rent space in the Unirea mall had to conclude first of all subsequent contracts with the companies administered by Ilan Laufer, for large sums of money, and later he would have helped them to rent the spaces in the Unirea Shopping Center for modest amounts, ziare.com reports.
The collected amounts were reportedly transferred to four companies in Cyprus and Switzerland, where they were subsequently withdrawn, by concluding fictitious consultancy, commission and brokerage contracts with these firms. The resulting money allegedly reached Carmen Adamescu, the investigators say.
Regarding the charge of tax evasion, in order not to pay taxes and profit tax for a company under his management, Ilan Laufer allegedly increased expenses, by concluding and accounting fictitious consultancy contracts with the 4 companies in Cyprus and Switzerland.
Ilan Laufer was Minister for the Business Environment and was proposed for the Ministry of Development, but President Klaus Iohannis rejected his nomination.
