Police officer’s death: Jurisdiction of the Prosecutor’s Office upon Bucharest Tribunal questioned

The Judicial Inspection of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) took notice while probing if the Prosecutor’s Office upon the Bucharest Tribunal has the necessary jurisdiction to investigate the file regarding the death of traffic police officer Bogdan Gigina.

CSM informs in a press release that, considering the latest reports in the media, it was notified ex officio over possible procedure breaches regarding the jurisdiction of the prosecution in the case of police officer Bogdan Gigina’s death, investigated by the Prosecutor’s Office upon the Bucharest Tribunal.

A week ago, Hotnews reported that the General Prosecutor’s Office should be notified following the numerous evidence and clues or that the prosecutors from the Prosecutor’s Office upon the Bucharest Court should decline the case.

Sources also quoted by the same news portal, Interior Minister Gabriel Oprea could be charged with abuse of office if he is proved to have resorted to the motorcare with breaking the legal provisions.

We remind our readers that traffic police Bogdan Gigina died more than a week ago during mission to lead Interior Minisgter Gabriel Oprea’s motorcade. The Prosecutor’s Office upon the Bucharest Tribunal initiated an investigation for manslaughter in this case. Minister Oprea has been heard as a witness on Wednesday.
