President Iohannis: I am waiting for the Police to explain how they lost Sebastian Ghita

President Klaus Iohannis stated that the Romanian Police should give explanations for Sebastian Ghita’s disappearance while under stakeout. While on his way to Strasbourg on Tuesday, the head of state said that police officers are responsible to find the former MP, who is “a runaway offender”. According to Iohannis, in this scandal, the Romanian Police owes to identify the runaway, although there is an attempt “to diffuse responsibility for his escape to the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI)”.

“I am waiting for the Police to explain how they have lost Sebastian Ghita and why they cannot find him. If they find him, good for them, if not, they should explain why they don’t find him. If they cannot do that, then what line they are in? There is an attempt to diffuse responsibility to SRI, but it’s not a matter of security. Ghita is a runaway offender, as he has rightfully been named,” the President told Digi 24.

Businessman Sebastian Ghita, former Social Democrat deputy has been gone missing since December-end and ever since he has launched several allegations against anti-corruption chief prosecutor Laura Codruta Kovesi and against ex-first deputy director of the SRI, Florian Coldea, through some video footages broadcast by the TV station he controls. Coldea was suspended from office following Ghita’s disclosures.

Ghita has gone missing although he was under Police stakeout and under judicial control in one of the corruption files opened against him.
