President Iohannis’ mother-in-law dies

President Klaus Iohannis’ mother-in-law, Carmen Iohannis’ mother, died in Sibiu on Sunday.

The Presidential Administration confirmed the death, with the Presidency’s spokesperson Madalina Dobrovolschi saying “this is a painful moment for the President’s family.”

At the same time, the spokesperson mentioned that President Iohannis expressed wish that this event should stay private.

Madalina Dobrovolschi also announced that the President’s schedule on Tuesday would be called off. The President was supposed to attend a business forum Romania-Slovakia in Bucharest next to the Slovak President Andrej Kiska, as well as to pay a visit to the Slovak community in Nadlac, Arad county in western Romania.

However, the Slovak President’s visit in Romania will be according to the announced timetable, the Romanian President’s spokesperson added.

Carmen Iohannis’ mom, octogenarian Georgeta Lazurca, has been living in the residence of the Iohannis couple in Sibiu for she was ill for quite some time. President Iohannis’ mother-in-law will be buried on Tuesday.
