Images have been made public that prove that former presidential candidate Călin Georgescu is not telling the truth when he claims that he does not know the mercenary Horațiu Potra. On Monday afternoon, it was confirmed that on Saturday, at a farm near Bucharest, Călin Georgescu met with the mercenary Horațiu Potra and the former Foreign Legion fighter Eugen Sechila. Moreover, there are images from a recent meeting between Georgescu and Potra, which have been distributed online.

Confirmation of Saturday’s meeting comes from the Syrian owner of a horse farm in Ciolpani, where Horațiu Potra and Eugen Sechila met. He reportedly revealed everything to investigators during Monday’s hearings. The man admitted that Călin Georgescu also attended the meeting. The meeting between the three took place on Saturday, December 7. The owner of the stud farm said that Georgescu took riding lessons at the Ciolpani stud farm, but also that the white horse that belongs to him appears in Georgescu’s election video: “It’s my horse!”, he told reporters.

The other day, the controversial presidential candidate was getting confused in his explanations, trying to deny that he knew Horațiu Potra, in a show on Realitatea Plus. Images in which Georgescu appears next to Potra in a hotel in Bucharest, which show that the two are quite close, are now circulating online.

Recently, on Realitatea TV, Călin Georgescu had stated that he knows about Potra, but that he has never met him. “I know about him, obviously, I know it as you know it too”, Georgescu said on Realitatea TV. I have not met him personally, I have no reason to say this, I know it as everyone has heard“, Georgescu also said. Eugen Sechila also appears at the table with Georgescu and Potra.

Last night on Realitatea Plus, Călin Georgescu made some clarifications regarding the images and information circulating in the public space. Călin Georgescu said that Horațiu Potra is not “in his circle of close friends” and claimed that the photos in which he appears with the grocer are not recent and that they were actually taken 2-3 years ago. “I saw hundreds, thousands of people,” said Georgescu, referring to the meeting with Potra, which he specified that “it was 2-3 years ago, I think.” Regarding the meeting on Saturday at the horse farm in Ciolpani, where he met Horațiu Potra and Eugen Sechila, Călin Georgescu said that “it was about many things.” “If it comes to that, I filmed riding. I go there quite often. I was there recently, I go up to date, but it doesn’t mean that I had the meetings that are said in the public space. It is known that I trust my military men in the Foreign Legion. But Mr. Potra is not close to me, why should I say anything about someone (who is not close to him, ed.)”.

Călin Georgescu avoided answering clearly whether he met the two on Saturday, December 7, at the said stud farm, and only admitted that he had been “recently” there. “I was, I was recently, because that is where I go for the current. It is irrelevant, it has no connection”. Georgescu said that the photos from the hotel are older, because he had “blacker hair” and “the pants are many years old, I got them from Austria. I also have five pairs of pants, of course I have to wear them”. Eugen Sechila stated on the TV reality show that the photos are from four years ago.

“This photo was taken about four years ago, as far as I can remember. We had several consecutive meetings, one at my house and the second one, which I remember, at Horațiu Potra’s request, we had at Mariott. It was a meeting… we discussed possible security and protection,” Sechila told Realitatea TV.

He could not specify why Călin Georgescu would have needed protection four years ago. Georgescu intervened and complemented Sechila: “By then, things were quite advanced for what I wanted to do. I had a lot of offers, I chose 3 months ago, practically since the campaign started.”

Horațiu Potra and his mercenaries are suspected by prosecutors of wanting to use firearms, edged weapons, a drone and money to instigate the commission of crimes during unauthorized protests, according to a statement from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Ploiești Court of Appeal. Police expanded the investigation into Potra’s case on Monday and are conducting 12 new searches in Mediaș, Bucharest and Ilfov. Potra’s house, which is being held for 24 hours, is also being searched again.
