Queues stretching for kilometres at the customs, due to new control rules
Hundreds of minutes of waiting and queues that stretch for kilometres and kilometres. More severe checks at the western borders have turned in recent days the exit from Romania into a nightmare. Most affected are the truck drivers.
For example, at Petea customs in Satu Mare, in order to cross to Hungary, the large vehicles wait for five hours. At Bors customs the drivers are waiting for more than four hours. Congestion was even tougher due to the celebration of Palm Sunday and by the fact that on Saturdays and Sundays the trucks cannot travel, tvr.ro informs.
The truck drivers say that by the introduction of new check rules they waited no more than two hours in order to leave the country. Now the expectation is two to three times longer.
People complain that their programme has been turned upside down and they register delays in deliveries. The other border crossing points were also busy, but the waiting times are not so long.
The situation was complicated at the border on Friday when the new control rules have entered into force, imposed by European Union. The documents are verified both by the Romanian police and by the Hungarian police. And the information is checked on the domestic and international databases, including by the Interpol.
The new rules are meant to combat terrorism and illegal migration. They apply to all crossings: air, sea and land.
