The railway employees want wage increases by 50% and announce protest rally on April 4, a release from the Meridian National Trade Union Confederation reads.

The Steering Committee of the Federation of Railway Transport Unions Federation in Romania (FSTFR) met on Thursday at Meridian’s offices to set the ways of action in the first half of the year, ziare.com informs.

The Steering Committee decided upon the future sittings and on a protest rally on April 4. The trade unions will request the urgent adoption of the railway employee statute and actual results in allotting European funds for updating the CFR Passengers trains and the railway infrastructure.

Trade unionists say the Government has to increase the capital of CFR Passengers in 2019 to modernize at least 600 carriages and 200 locomotives.

They also request real compensations for transport operators and the approval of the budget for CFR Passengers in 2019 providing profit of 3%.

Among the other claims are: the appointment of a competent Transport Minister, wage increases by 50%, the cancelling of orders no. 1853 and no. 1856 which put at risk railway traffic, the speeding up of investments in railway infrastructure in order to eliminate speed restrictions.
