Red Heat Alert Covers Over Half the Country, Most Extensive Ever
Meteorologists have issued a heatwave code red alert for more than half of the country. It is the most extensive code red alert ever issued by the Romanian National Meteorology Administration (ANM). The hottest weekend this summer is coming: it will reach 40 degrees Celsius, and Bucharest will be just one degree away from July’s record of 42 degrees Celsius.
The weather warning is valid for July 13 and 14.
According to meteorologists, in Crisana, Banat, Oltenia, Muntenia and Moldova, the heat wave will continue to intensify. Maximum temperatures between 37 and 41C will be recorded. Thermal discomfort will be particularly pronounced, and the temperature-humidity index (ITU) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units.
The temperature lows will not drop below 20 degrees.
Today and tomorrow, almost the entire country is under a heat code orange. Only the Black Sea coast and a few counties in the mountain area are under yellow code.
In most of the country, the heat wave will intensify. It will be hot, and the maximum temperatures will be between 36 and 40 degrees, possibly higher in Banat, Oltenia, Muntenia, as well as in the south of Crișana and Moldova. Thermal discomfort will be accentuated, and the temperature-humidity index (ITU) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units.
Bucharest, 40C and tropical nights
On Saturday and Sunday, a Red Code for persistent heat will come into force in Bucharest. The Capital residents will experience tropical nights and temperatures of 40 degrees this weekend, according to ANM.
It will be hot today, July 11, as well and the thermal discomfort will be accentuated, and the temperature-humidity index (ITU) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. The maximum temperature will be 38…39C, the minimum will not fall below the threshold of a tropical night and will be 20…23 degrees.
On Friday, July 12, the heat wave, heat wave and heightened thermal discomfort will continue. The temperature-humidity index (TUI) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. The maximum temperature will be around 39 degrees, and the minimum, specific to the tropical night, will be 19…22 degrees. The sky will be variable, and the wind will blow moderately (gust speeds of up to 30…35 km/h).
On Saturday, July 13, the heat wave will be intense and the thermal discomfort particularly accentuated. The temperature-humidity index (TUI) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. The maximum temperature will be 39…40 degrees, and the minimum, specific to the tropical night, will be 21…23 degrees. The sky will be mostly clear and the wind will be light to moderate.
On Sunday, July 14, the intense heat wave and particularly pronounced thermal discomfort will continue. The temperature-humidity index (TUI) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. The maximum temperature will be around 40 degrees, and the minimum will be 22…23 degrees. The sky will be variable and the wind will be light to moderate.
